Skype And Digium Unveil Beta Solution For Business Users
The companies collaborated after realizing that since approximately 30 percent of Skype's 338 million customers use Skype in work settings, the company could branch out from the consumer side and take advantage of an untapped business market.
Developed with the SMB market in mind, Skype For Asterisk lets users call, receive and transfer calls from Skype and use Asterisk apps such as call routing, conferencing, phone menus and voicemail from within Asterisk phone systems using existing hardware.
"Throughout our individual histories, Skype and Asterisk have each disrupted conventional communication methods through innovative, cost-effective solutions," said Stefan --berg, vice president and general manager for Skype Telecom and Skype for Business.
Danny Windham, CEO of Digium, the creator and sponsor of Asterisk, also said that Skype For Asterisk will also help Digium's channel partners, who will be able to install and maintain the solution as an add-on business service.
