Leaked Intel Doc Shows Launch Date For Westmere-Class Xeons

On a table listing the "Xeon 5600 Sequence" scheduled for a March 16 release, the Intel document lists 13 dual-socket, 32nm Xeon processors, the first in the Westmere processor generation, as well as three additional 45nm Xeon chips that are scheduled for release on the same date.

At the top of the list is the six-core, 12-thread Xeon X5680, a 3.33GHz part that runs at 130 watts with 12MB of cache and the full feature set of Intel technologies introduced with 2009's Nehalem generation, including Intel Turbo Boost and Hyperthreading. Intel is also expected to release the Westmere-class, six-core Core i7 980X for servers and workstations in March of next year.

In addition to the Xeon X5680, the March 16 release list includes five more six-core chips, all with 12 threads and 12MB of cache -- the Xeon X5670 (2.93GHz, 95W), X5660 (2.80GHz, 95W), X5650 (2.66GHz, 95W), L5640 (2.26GHz, 60W) and W3680 (3.33GHz, 130W).

Seven 32nm, quad-core processors are also listed, all with 12MB of cache -- the Xeon X5677 (3.46GHz, 130W), X5667 (3.06GHz, 95W), E5640 (2.66GHz, 80W), E5630 (2.53Hz, 80W), E5620 (2.40GHz, 80W), L5630 (2.13GHz, 40W), L5609 (1.86GHz, 40W). All of those chips, with the exception of the Xeon L5609, have eight threads, Hyperthreading and Turbo Boost.

The last three processors on the list are additions to Intel's 45nm generation of Nehalem-based Xeon chips -- the quad-core Xeon E5507 (2.26GHz, 80W, 4MB cache), dual-core E5503 (2.00GHz, 80W, 4MB cache) and quad-core, eight-thread W3530 (2.80GHz, 130W, 8MB cache).

Intel also lists several EPSD motherboards that "will all be compatible with [the] Westmere CPU at launch." With product numbers and codenames, these are identified as Intel S5520UR (Urbanna), S5520HC/S5500HCV (Hanlan Creek), S5500BC (Bluff Creek), S5500WB (Willowbrook) and S5520SC (Shady Cove).
