The move was confirmed to CRN late Thursday by representatives from both Cisco and Juniper. Tierney will report to Lauren Flaherty, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Juniper, and will focus on how the Juniper Partner Program is used by Juniper partners and its global partner marketing organization.

"I am delighted to have a dynamic powerhouse like Luanne joining our team," said Lauren Flaherty, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Juniper, in a statement e-mailed to CRN.

Tierney confirmed on her Twitter feed that she will join Juniper February 7.

At Cisco, Tierney was vice president of worldwide partner marketing at Cisco, spearheading global partner marketing initiatives for more than 13,000 Cisco partners, distributors and VARs.

Among her triumphs was Cisco Partner Velocity, an annual conference focused on helping partners learn to market themselves better in the age of social media and changing messages.

Tierney has more than 20 years of channel marketing experience and before Cisco, worked at 3Com, HP, Apple and First Deposit Corp.

In an e-mail statement sent to CRN, a Cisco spokesman wrote:

"Cisco can confirm that Luanne Tierney, vice president of marketing in our Worldwide Partner Organization has decided to leave Cisco to pursue an executive opportunity with another company. We wish Luanne well with her future endeavors.' Luanne built a strong partner marketing team and drove innovation, creativity and great programs. Our commitment to partner marketing and our partner marketing strategy remains unchanged."

Tierney's hiring is the second major executive hire announced by Juniper in as many days. On Wednesday, Juniper named Brad Brooks, most recently corporate vice president of Windows Consumer Marketing and Product Management at Microsoft, as its new vice president of worldwide enterprise marketing and solutions.

Juniper is also expected to name a new worldwide channel chief later this month.
