CLEC TelePacific Continues Acquisition Spree With Tel West

Financial terms of the acquisition weren't disclosed. Tel West will bring TelePacific about 3,400 SMB customers, enterprise customers and government customers across Texas, as well as a service portfolio spanning high speed Internet and other telecommunications. TelePacific currently manages about 38,000 business accounts across California, Nevada and other U.S. locations, according to the company.

Dick Jalkut, TelePacific's president and CEO, said that acquiring Tel West would kick start TelePacific's growth in Texas.

"Tel West's success with its customers, employees and infrastructure creates an ideal platform to leverage TelePacific's expanded services and create the leading communications network service provider in Texas," Jalkut said in a statement.

Tel West will continue to operate under its own name, according to the companies, and Tel West President and CEO Jeff Swickard will continue with the combined company as president of Tel West.

TelePacific has been an active participant in the recent wave of M&A moves sweeping the telecom service provider space. In May, the CLEC announced it would acquire Telekenex, the IP services provider based in San Francisco and Seattle, and offer cloud-based security services, managed network services and hosted PBX through a newly formed managed services channel.

Earlier in June, TelePacific closed an acquisition of Orange County Internet Xchange (OCIX), giving it OCIX's carrier colocation services and its 10,000 square foot SAS Type II-certified facility in Santa Ana, Calif.

Last summer, TelePacific bought the SMB business of O1 Communications, and late last year TelePacific said it would acquire NextWeb, the former MegaPath subsidiary and fixed wireless broadband provider, following MegaPath's three-way merger with Covad and Speakeasy several months earlier.
