Cisco To Acquire AXIOSS Network Management Software
The specific software, AXIOSS, will help service providers speed up how they can launch and manage new services in areas such as video, data and cloud, Cisco said.
AXIOSS will be integrated into the service provider version of Cisco Prime, Cisco's network management and network services platform for enterprises and service providers. The software assets will become part of Cisco's Network Management Technology Group (NMTG), and the team Cisco is acquiring from the Comptel subsidiary, formerly known as Axiom Systems, will join NMTG and Cisco's Advanced Services Group.
Jesper Andersen, senior vice president and general manager of NMTG, said service providers will need resources like AXIOSS as they build out IP infrastructure to support the growth of mobile devices and the needs of bandwidth-intensive applications.
"With the acquisition of AXIOSS software and talent, we will help enable service providers to generate greater profits using a single management architecture to drive quick monetization and optimization of their Cisco network investments," Andersen said in a statement.
Comptel, based in Helsinki, acquired the former Axiom Systems in 2008. It will continue to support the Axioss customers it already has, the company said in a statement.
Gareth Senior, Comptel's chief technology officer and a member of its executive board, is also joining Cisco, according to Comptel.
Cisco's most recent acquisition this year was in March, when it bought cloud provisioning specialist NewScale. Axioss is the first acquisition since Cisco confirmed a broad company restructuring and said it would focus on five technology priorities instead of 30 to 50 market "adjacencies."
