Riverbed Nabs Juniper VP To Run Application Delivery Practice

Pancottine, whose title at Juniper was vice president and general manager, Emerging Technology Business Unit, is now senior vice president and general manager for Riverbed Stingray. His purview includes sales, product development, marketing and channel development for the business.

"Jeff is an asset to the Riverbed team and brings with him leadership experience gained from tenures with Juniper and F5 [Networks]," Eric Wolford, president of Riverbed Products Group, said in a statement.

Prior to Juniper, Pancottine was president and CEO of SaaS specialist Daptiv, formerly known as eProject, and spent six years at F5. F5, which dominates the application delivery networking market, and Riverbed are seen as increasingly competitive following Riverbed's continued expansion into app delivery and content acceleration technologies.

"As the ADC market continues to grow and the structure of the market changes, Riverbed is again well-positioned to provide customers with a solution for their cloud and virtual needs," Pancottine said in a statement. "I look forward to leading efforts to continue the success of this business unit."

Juniper and Riverbed last year entered into a strategic agreement to partner on the development of WAN optimization, application delivery and mobility technologies. Juniper also agreed to endorse Riverbed as its provider of choice for WAN optimization, and the companies provided a trade-in program for Juniper WX/WXC platform customers to migrate to Riverbed's Steelhead products.

Juniper, for its part, is in recovery mode after a challenging year of earnings shortfalls and restructuring. Pancottine joins a slew of vice president-and-above-level executives that have left Juniper over the past two years.
