CenturyLink Customers Experience Widespread Network Outage

A statement on the Monroe, La.-based company's Facebook page reads, "CenturyLink is currently experiencing a disruption in service. We are working to restore service as soon as possible and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We will continue to work towards resolution until all issues are resolved."

Customers who were attempting to reach the service provider are also having a difficult time reaching the call center, and some people on the Internet are speculating about whether or not they will receive partial credit for their loss of service.

Outages such as this one often generate phone calls to channel partners from customers who are looking for workarounds, as well as any specific information as to when service will be restored.

"We position ourselves as the first point of contact for our customers," said Garth Brown, president of Seattle-based Semaphore. "So we often get a lot of calls when these sorts of things happen. We have gotten some calls this morning regarding the CenturyLink outage, but it does not look like a large number of our customers have been hit. The unfortunate thing is that, in many cases, there is not much that we can do except wait for service to be restored."

A CenturyLink spokesperson could not be reached for comment.
