Juniper Networks Adds Analytics Startup Cyphort To Its Security Technology Portfolio

Juniper Networks plans to integrate Cyphort's security technology into its advanced threat prevention product, Sky ATP. The acquisition brings Cyphort CEO Manoj Leelanivas back to Juniper, where he worked for 14 years.

Juniper Networks' security business is getting a shot in the arm as the networking vendor unveiled its plan on Thursday to acquire security analytics software startup Cyphort.

"In order to advance security and provide customers with an industry-leading (Advanced Threat Prevention) platform to bolster their overall security posture, we have taken an important step with our intent to acquire Cyphort," said Juniper, in a blog post on Thursday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Juniper said the acquisition would strengthen its advanced threat prevention product, Sky ATP, by offering an enhanced solution for both on-premises and cloud. Combined with Sky ATP, Cyphort will provide increased efficiency and performance, a wider range of supported file types, and new threat-detection functionality that draws from advanced machine learning and behavioral analytics, according to the company.

Santa Clara, Calif.-based Cyphort provides midsized and large enterprise customers with security analytics for advanced threat defense.

Founded by former government intelligence agency officials and network security company veterans, Cyphort provides advanced threat protection solutions that guard customers against zero-day and targeted attacks. The Cyphort Platform uses behavioral analytics, intelligence, and malware detection to spot attacks across virtual, physical and cloud infrastructure.

Brian Rosenberg, vice president of global partners and alliances for Juniper, told CRN this month that Juniper was "all in on security."

"We're absolutely committed to security. We have seen a decline in the business. We've been very open-eyed on where the struggles have been with security, the reasons for those struggles – a lot of them technical. We spent a lot of time and energy to get that portfolio refreshed," said Rosenberg. "We ramping our incentives in the security space."

Cyphort CEO Manoj Leelanivas is a 14-year veteran of Juniper, where he most recently served as the executive VP of worldwide sales for Advanced Technologies, before taking the leadership position at Cyphort in 2013.

The Cyphort acquisition is expected to close by the end of September.
