D-Link Opens Doors For VARs

D-Link's hot-spot product line now includes the Airspot DSA-5100 Public/Private Service Gateway, which provides secure wireless access for up to 400 active public users. D-Link's current offering, the Airspot DSA-3100, supports up to 50 concurrent users.

"It's going to allow us to target larger clients," said Greg Skinner, president of ACJ Technology Solutions, a wireless integrator in Bellevue, Wash. "I think where it's primarily going to fit is at locations that host large events or meetings where they need managed access."

The DSA-5100 also adds remote management--a feature its predecessor lacks--to ease deployment, he said.

In addition to letting solution providers target new markets, the DSA-5100 creates new services opportunities, said Matt Dargis, senior director of strategic channel sales at D-Link, Fountain Valley, Calif. "The system requires customization and installation. It's not a consumer box," he said.

The DSA-5100 includes two WAN ports for network load balancing, as well as integrated security features such as user authentication, firewall, denial-of-service protection and stateful packet inspection. It can store up to 2,000 user profiles in an internal database.

The product carries a suggested retail price of $3,499.99 and includes a one-year warranty, free limited technical support and firmware updates.
