Cisco Picks Up Dynamicsoft

The acquisition, Cisco said in an announcement Monday, will strengthen its position in wireless/wireline convergence by improving its ability to offer service providers improvements in next generation VoIP applications and services. Dynamicsoft's software products will be integrated with existing Cisco products like its SIP-based BTS 10200 Softswitch, Cisco said.

"Dynamicsoft's portfolio of carrier-class infrastructure products, combined with Cisco's softswitch capabilities, will allow service providers to quickly develop and deploy highly scalable 'subscriber-aware' IP communications services using voice, video, messaging, presence, and other real-time capabilities," said Cisco's Charles Giancarlo, senior vice president and chief technology officer, in the statement.

Cisco indicated it liked the acquisition because it underscores its commitment to telecommunications service providers by helping them acquire new revenue services over broadband access networks.

While Cisco has long held a strong position as a supplier of routers across-the-board, it has not been as strong in the VoIP carrier market. Dynamicsoft's management will report to Don Proctor, Cisco's vice president and general manager, voice technology group. Dynamicsoft has 104 employees.
