Verizon is following in the footsteps of Uber and AirBnB in hopes of cashing in on the sharing economy at an enterprise level. At the Verizon Innovation Center in Waltham, Mass., Innovation Program Assistant Manager Tim Gorman demonstrated Verizon’s IoT share platform.

’We spend a lot of time in this particular area with our enterprise customers and potential business partners, really helping brands create that personal relationship from a consumer engagement perspective,’ said Gorman.

’We think there’s a great opportunity to capitalize and help organizations capitalize on this whole trend from a sharing economy perspective, where nobody wants to own a capital asset,’ he added.

Gorman showed CRNtv a self-serve rental solution, through which users can place reservations to take temporary ownership of capital assets like generators.

Through the IoT share platform, Verizon can white-label applications to operate on the platform for enterprise customers.

’We believe this is a huge market for us,’ Gorman said.
