ISS Extends Proventia Line

The new models--the Proventia G400 and G2000--offer the flexibility of 400-Mbit or 2-Gbit throughput, and feature a new localized management interface. The products are shipping now.

The G400 and G2000 are part of a broader campaign to migrate the Proventia devices away from ISS' software-based Site Protector central management console, enabling resellers to build more services around the tools, said Clarence Morey, senior manager of product strategy at Atlanta-based ISS.

"The new appliances are great for resellers because they can manage the devices on their terms," Morey said, noting that speed, scalability and simplicity are three of ISS' focus areas this year. "Now that you can manage the appliances locally, there are a lot of customization opportunities."

Perhaps few solution providers understand the new management opportunities like Paul Graffeo, co-founder of RBTi, Atlanta. Graffeo's company has built its own branded security information management appliance to manage a deployment of Proventia systems, and plans to incorporate the new Proventia boxes into the mix.

Graffeo said the G2000 in particular should help his company meet customers' need for devices that perform at high speeds. "It's all about performance," he said. "We like that with these new boxes, we have the ability to manage some really high-speed [appliances] with our tool."

ISS also introduced a new antispyware strategy for the entire Proventia line. The new strategy is a two-phased approach of blocking the threats from attacking computers and preventing pre-existing malicious programs from wreaking havoc, according to ISS executives.

The new antispyware capabilities are available as a free upgrade to all existing Proventia appliance customers. Pricing for the Proventia G400 and G2000 units starts at $9,999.
