%95 RSA Security settled Securities and Exchange Commission charges that it made misleading statements in a conference call and press release about its 2001 first-quarter earnings. The SEC said RSA made misleading statements in an April 10, 2001, press release and conference that made it appear that its ability to meet analysts' earnings expectations resulted solely from its operations, instead of being partly due an accounting change. RSA said it did not admit or deny any wrongdoing in its settlement with the SEC, which ordered the vendor to cease and desist from committing or causing any violations of antifraud provisions of federal securities laws.

%95 Microsoft issued a patch for a critical vulnerability in its DirectX set of multimedia programming interfaces for Windows that could allow an attacker to execute code on a user's system.

%95 Oracle issued alerts for vulnerabilities in its products, including two serious flaws in its E-Business Suite.

%95 Symantec posted income of $68 million on revenue of $391 million for its first quarter; that compares with income of $56.5 million on $316 million in revenue for the same quarter last year. In a conference call with financial analysts, Symantec Chairman and CEO John Thompson said the company was able to produce strong results despite continued weakness in the global economy and IT spending. Meanwhile, Check Point Software Technologies posted income of $60.2 million on revenue of $106.1 million, a drop compared with income of $64.7 million on revenue of $108.6 million in the same quarter last year.
