WebCohort Changes Name to Imperva

Web application security company WebCohort Thursday said that it has changed its name to Imperva.

The Foster City, Calif., company sells its SecureSphereT product through an extensive channel program.

CEO Shlomo Kramer said the sales channel should not be impacted at all by the company's change in name.

"Since our company began, it has been focused on protecting what we call the 'application sphere,' " Kramer said. "Our new name reflects the fact that we bring total protection to that sphere."

According to Kramer, when the SecureSphereT product was launched in 2002, it introduced a new architectural approach dubbed the Correlated Attack Validation to prevent with accuracy and transparency any intrusion into Web applications.

Recent data published by the company's Application Defense Center highlighted the fact that applications are uniformly vulnerable to attacks on custom code and platform applications alike.

Kramer noted that regulations such as HIPAA and GLSB are making protection against such intrusions necessary for businesses to survive, and added that Imperva would focus on both of these areas moving forward.
