Week In Security: Linux Security Certification, eSoft Rebate Offer

• IBM and SuSE Linux said SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 on IBM eServer xSeries has earned Common Criteria security certification, paving the way to wider adoption of Linux by the federal government. Common Criteria is a standard used by the federal government and others to determine security of products.

• Teros, a maker of Web security appliances, named Greg Smith senior director of product marketing. Smith formerly was director of product marketing at Check Point Software Technologies.

• Trusted Computer Solutions, a supplier of information-sharing technologies to the U.S. Department of Defense, said it closed $3 million in private financing from Novak Biddle Venture Partners.

• eSoft launched a trade-in program that offers a rebate of up to $1,000 for customers who trade in their existing firewall/VPN product for an eSoft integrated security product. The program runs until Sept. 30.
