ISS Launches Security Appliance Line
The supplier of intrusion-detection and vulnerability-assessment technology will unveil its Proventia line of network security appliances, executives said. The line will offer an increasing level of security as ISS develops it, they said.
"We believe there is a window of opportunity to provide a solution that will identify and block all threats on the network without user intervention," said Tim McCormick, vice president of marketing at ISS, Atlanta.
The initial A Series will incorporate the vendor's core RealSecure intrusion-protection technology, the B Series will add inline intrusion protection via RealSecure Guard, and the C Series will be a multifunction device that adds firewall protection, gateway antivirus, and spam control.
McCormick said the appliance form factor will drive the complexity out of the company's products and reduce their acquisition and deployments costs.
Pricing for the A Series, available now, starts at $9,995. The B Series is slated for availability in the third quarter, and the C Series is scheduled for release in the fourth quarter.
ISS is partnering with other vendors to provide firewall, antivirus and other security products, but executives declined to name them.
McCormick said ISS plans to sell the devices, which are standard Intel-based, hardened Linux appliances, through its direct-sales force and its channel partners. The C Series will open up huge opportunities in the midmarket, and the channel will play a key role there, he added.
