N2H2 executives said the agreement, its first with a distributor, will make the company's products accessible to a large number of VARs and expand its market share. The vendor currently works directly with about 140 solution providers.

"By going to Tech Data, we make the product very broadly available," said Phil Welt, president and CEO of N2H2, based here. "That makes it easy for dealers, which is one of our goals."

The agreement allows VARs to sell N2H2's products without the sign-up fees, certification tests or quotas required by competing Internet filtering providers, said Ken Hammond, N2H2 channel marketing manager.

The company's Sentian product line is tailored for the enterprise and government markets, while the Bess line targets the education market.

N2H2's products are integrated with firewalls or caching engines. Now, when solution providers make a firewall sale, they can go to Tech Data to add on a filtering product, Welt said.

"Overall, the way we view the category is it's an important category but also a utility or add-on," Welt said.
