McAfee Broadens Its Horizons

The products previously were available only via enterprise distributors Access Distribution and Arrow Electronics' MOCA division, according to Chris Carter, senior director of North America distribution at McAfee, Santa Clara, Calif.

Jim Freeman, principal and CFO at Attain Technologies, an Englewood, Colo.-based solution provider, welcomed the broadline distribution news. "We manage most of our business through Tech Data. This simplifies the order management process for us," he said.

It also will help Attain better manage its credit lines, Freeman said, adding that the McAfee products are among his best-selling security products.

"This is a fairly scalable solution. It ranges from SMB through the enterprise. It was a little surprising given the breadth of the solution that it didn't go [through] broadline sooner," he said.

Tech Data and Ingram Micro plan to host training sessions for the products. In addition, Tech Data will feature the offerings in its Clearwater, Fla.-based TDSolutions Center.

Ingram Micro plans to showcase the products in its Buffalo, N.Y., solutions center and add them to its Santa Ana, Calif., facility.

The additions of IntruShield and Foundstone complete the McAfee product lines available through Ingram Micro and Tech Data.

"We wanted to make sure resellers can buy all their McAfee from us as a one-stop shop," said Tamra Muir, vice president of software product marketing at Tech Data.

Ingram Micro has been talking to McAfee for several quarters about picking up IntruShield and Foundstone, said Jodi Honore, vice president of vendor management and software at Ingram Micro.

"It enables us now to have its entire product line. We don't have to send customers somewhere else," Honore said.
