Japanese Security Standout Hennge Targets MSP-Focused Expansion To North America

The company plans to bring its Hennge One offering — as well as a Japanese-style emphasis on customer service and long-term relationships — to MSPs around the North America market, according to Hennge Inc. CEO Robert Sharp.

Japanese cybersecurity vendor Hennge is seeking to rely upon MSPs to drive its expansion to the North America market, with an offering that aims to deliver advanced capabilities that have previously been too complex for SMBs to adopt, executives told CRN.

Hennge Inc. is a joint venture between Japanese cloud security vendor Hennge K.K. and venture capital firm SunBridge Corp. The venture was formed in April to bring the Hennge One platform to customers in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, according to Hennge Inc. CEO Robert Sharp (pictured).

Founded in 1996, Hennge is a well-known security brand in Japan that is publicly traded in the country. Its Hennge One platform combines capabilities for access security, data protection and threat defense that are tailored to the needs of SMBs, Sharp said.

For its North America expansion, Hennge Inc. is looking to bring a Japanese-style emphasis on customer service and relationship-building, said Sharp, who grew up in Japan.

“We’re looking for long-term relationships with MSPs here,” he said. “We’re not looking for quick wins. We’re really looking for MSPs who could grow with us.”

Hennge One is aimed at being very affordable while also offering greater simplification in its product capabilities to enable adoption by MSPs and their SMB customers, Sharp said.

“A lot of SMBs, particularly when they’re starting their cloud security adoption journey, don’t understand the full opportunity of bringing in sophisticated technologies,” he said.

The simplicity of the offering should enable more SMBs to adopt these capabilities for the first time through their MSPs, according to Sharp.

One MSP that has already been working with Hennge Inc. is Denver-based Kenyatta Computer Services, which has been using the Hennge One platform both internally and for customer deployments, CEO Nahjee Maybin said.

In addition to the compelling capabilities of the platform, “I just love seeing a different perspective to business being applied to the North American market,” Maybin said.

For instance, Hennge Inc. is bringing a focus on exceptional customer service that is a key part of business culture in Japan, he said.

“What we think is ‘good’ customer service here is just regular, run-of-the-mill customer service in Japan,” he said.

Ultimately, “it’s just a different kind of business experience that I’ve experienced with Hennge so far,” Maybin said.
