Stealthbits Adds Active Directory To Microsoft Management Platform

Stealthbits Technologies, a maker of software to manage Microsoft infrastructure products, has introduced a monitoring and control application for Active Directory.

The Glen Rock, N.J.-based company released StealthIntercept Directory Authority Tuesday, adding an important complement to the company's StealthAudit Management Platform. The latter product manages the full Microsoft environment with data collection, action modules, analysis modules and reporting capabilities.

Stealthbits bills itself as a maker of IT compliance, security and operational management software. The latest product fills a gap in the company's portfolio by providing realtime monitoring and control of Active Directory.

The software introduces a new architecture for the company. Where StealthAudit is primarily an agentless product drawing data through Microsoft application programming interfaces, StealthIntercept Directory Authority works as an inline process with Active Directory server to continuously perform tasks. "This is a departure from our typical architecture," Adam Laub, vice president of global product management, said.

The software's capabilities include monitoring, identifying and auditing changes to passwords, privileges, group memberships, group policy objects, and any other objects within the directory. Other features include the ability to prevent changes from occurring, including accidental deletions. The software can also send alerts for specific events and deliver reports.

The 75-employee Stealthbits has been around for 11 years and only recently hired a vice president of business development focused on expanding the company's channel program. Charlie Palella, who was hired roughly six months ago, said 25 percent of the company's sales come from resellers. "We would like to increase that dramatically," he said.

Besides promising competitive margins on sales, Palella said resellers can earn additional money by providing services on top of product sales.
