Unisys Rolls Out Suite Of Mobile Security Services

“The context is around the explosive growth in mobile devices, which is causing business and government to revisit how they can support increased mobility of their people,” explained Terry Hartmann, vice president of global security solutions at the Blue Bell, Penn.-based integrator. “This leads to a compelling productivity aspect because mobility is becoming the new office. Fifty-seven percent of corporate employees are at least partially mobile. Plus, they want to bring their own devices and to mix corporate and personal data on those devices. If organizations don't respond to this, their customers and their employees will go elsewhere.”

The Unisys Mobility Solutions address a full range of requirements -- including assessment services, user authentication, application development and managed services for both service desk and for device management -- and positions the suite for the future extensions of those components.

“The typical organization has a lot of fear about mobility and doesn't know what to do," said Hartmann. “Or, they've done something and don't know how to position themselves for the future.”

Under the mobility assessment services, the integrator’s consultants examine how mobile devices are used within the particular customer organization, and they conduct an analysis to identify specific threats and opportunities for improvement.

The mobile application development services are aimed at designing new applications as well as facilitating the effectiveness of legacy applications that are being ported to mobile devices.

Mobile authentication services leverage passwords, location, biometrics and similar means of authentication to establish access and enforce policy.

MyWork Services for Mobile offers subscription-based managed helpdesk services that perform device management, policy enforcement, asset tracking and network performance monitoring. The service also uses Intel’s Anti-Theft technology to track devices, disable missing devices and reactivate devices that are subsequently located.

Unisys currently delivers the services through its own consultants but has alliances with different organizations, including channel partners who might be called upon for second-level support.

Pricing is by individual quote, based on customer circumstances.

"Effective mobile device management is much more than just accessing the device to the network,” summarized Hartmann. “It is a whole range of governance, policies, asset tracking, application planning and support services that can eliminate the mayhem and help our customers prepare for the future."
