Kaspersky Lab Senior Vice President of B2B Sales Michael Canavan has left the security vendor to take a new role leading professional services at Globalscape, CRN has learned.
Canavan left Kaspersky a little over a month ago to take the new role, one source said.
Canavan joined Kaspersky in 2010, first leading the company's pre-sales systems engineering for North America and, more recently, leading its B2B sales team in the region. His responsibilities included overseeing the company's channel program and partners.
A Kaspersky spokesperson confirmed Canavan's departure in an email to CRN, saying he stepped down from the role. The spokesperson said Alexander Moiseev, chief sales officer, and Angelo Gentile, executive vice president, finance and operations, North America are leading B2B sales in the region while the company identifies a replacement.
"[Kaspersky Lab] greatly appreciates Mike’s contributions to the success of the B2B business in the region for the past seven years, and we wish him well in his next endeavor," the Kaspersky spokesperson said.
Canavan and Globalscape did not respond to CRN requests for comment.
News of Canavan's departure comes shortly after Kaspersky appointed a new North American channel chief, Jason Stein. Stein replaced former North American channel chief Leslie Bois, who left the company in December to take a channel chief role at Veracode (acquired by CA Technologies). The Kaspersky channel had been led by Canavan in the interim.
Matt Johnson, CEO of Phalanx Secure Solutions, a Baltimore, Md.-based Globalscape partner, said he hopes Canavan can bring some sales expertise to his new role at Globalscape. He said that is an area in which Globalscape recently has been weaker with partners and he hopes Canavan's sales and B2B experience will boost the security vendor's efforts there.
"Hopefully he can come in and make things better," Johnson said.
