McAfee Module Nabs Spyware In Enterprises
The McAfee Anti-Spyware Enterprise Edition Module integrates seamlessly with McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 7.1 and 8.01, incorporating an extra layer of security with centralized management.
News of the Anti-Spyware Enterprise Edition Module came just one week after Islandia, N.Y.-based Computer Associates International launched its own antispyware consumer product.
But according to John Bedrick, group marketing manager for system security at McAfee, the McAfee product is an enterprise-class solution that enables channel partners to help enterprises fight network threats. "This is a business-class product for business implementations," he said. "With it, [solution providers] don't have to peddle consumer-oriented products to the enterprise."
The new solution from McAfee, Santa Clara, Calif., uses realtime scanning to identify and safely eliminate malicious applications, including entries in the Windows Registry and other areas where programs leave remains. It offers traditional on-demand scanning and removal, as well as an extensive database of potentially unwanted programs that updates automatically.
Other vendors in the enterprise antispyware space include PestPatrol, Carlisle, Pa., and WebRoot Software, Boulder, Colo.
The McAfee product is available now and is priced at $15 per node.
Solution providers were impressed with the product's breadth of functionality.
"I guarantee you we're going to sell tons of these," said Steve Palange, president and CEO of TLIC Worldwide, Wakefield, R.I. "All by itself, enterprise-class antispyware could transform McAfee into a huge player in the security marketplace."
