ScanSource Security Adds Image Vault DVRs

The systems allow an end-user customer to tie the video into their existing point-of-sale (POS) system, providing enhanced security and efficiency, according to Tony Sorrentino, vice president of merchandising at ScanSource Security Distribution, a business unit of Greenville, S.C.-based ScanSource.

"Image Vault's products enable retailers to index all of their transactions and sort the video by any type of information, such as date, time, salesperson, voids, etc., improving tracking ability, efficiency and productivity," Sorrentino said in a statement.

Image Vault's plug-and-play digital recorders are designed to replace analog time-lapse video recorders and provide remote access via dial-up, DSL, Web or network connections. The DVR records the images captured from the surveillance cameras and tracks the video along with information coming from a customer's POS system. Images are available at all times, unlike videotape, and recorded images and playback software can be downloaded to a standard CD-ROM with the push of a button, according to the companies.

"Resellers will achieve incremental business by offering security to their end-user customers. Image Vault is in demand by retailers of all types and is a natural fit for POS resellers because of the seamless interface to POS systems," said Lloyd Jones, senior vice president of sales at Image Vault, a unit of FKI Security Group, New Albany, Ind.

ScanSource Security Distribution also offers access control, surveillance, intrusion and fire-related products to round out the solution, according to the distributor.

ScanSource Security Distribution was launched last November as a separate business unit from ScanSource. Sorrentino was recently named vice president of merchandising, and Steve Owings, chairman of ScanSource, has returned from medical leave and will provide counsel to the new business unit, according to the company. John Gaillard remains president of ScanSource Security Distribution.

"We are very pleased with the management team we have in place and are excited about the experience John and Tony will bring to the new unit," said Mike Baur, president and CEO of ScanSource, in a statement. "Their leadership and channel expertise will benefit resellers looking to grow or enter the electronic security market."
