Secureworks Hires Former Google Cloud Director As New CTO

Secureworks has hired a new CTO with an extensive background at Google Cloud, Goldman Sachs and AppGate.

Cybersecurity standout Secureworks has nabbed security guru Michael Aiello as its new CTO with the goal of creating the next generation of outcome-based security solutions.

Aiello is a top-notch cybersecurity executive who spent years at Google Cloud as director of product management, leading the security of Google Cloud and its cloud infrastructure. He also drove security and privacy risk management for its parent company Alphabet.

On top of his Google Cloud experience, Aiello was the CISO for financial giant Goldman Sachs Bank in the U.S.

The Atlanta-based security company will leverage Aiello’s expertise to help define the next horizon of cybersecurity, accelerate its business transformation under its relatively new CEO Thomas, and champion its customers to delver enhanced security outcomes.

Building The ‘Next Frontier Of Cybersecurity’

Aiello will report directly to Thomas, who took over the reins at Secureworks last year following the departure of the company’s longtime leader, Michael Cote.

“Mike [Aiello] has been at the helm of multiple cutting-edge initiatives at some of the world’s most recognized companies, resulting in a deep well of knowledge and experience that our customers, partners and teammates will all benefit from,” said Thomas in a statement.

“His forward-thinking, strategic mindset will undoubtedly accelerate our goal to solve security’s toughest challenges as a leading innovator in cyber,” she added. “We look forward to working together to build the next frontier of cybersecurity.”

During Aiello’s more than 20-year career in the technology industry, he’s been a driving force for security and data privacy initiatives.

Most recently he served as chief product officer for cybersecurity firm Human Security, helping to double the company’s growth rate in 2021. Secureworks’ new CTO was also CEO of security analytics company AppGate.

Secureworks Taegis

Secureworks Taegis is the company’s flagship offering.

The cloud-native security analytics platform, built on years of real-world threat intelligence and research, aims to improve customers’ ability to detect advanced threats, drive automation, and streamline and collaborate on investigations.

Aiello said he’s excited to take Taegis to the next level.

“Secureworks has created a platform in Taegis with best-in-class accuracy at an unprecedented scale,” said Aiello in a statement. “Every day Secureworks helps customers in more than 80 countries defend their business against increasingly sophisticated adversaries. This is an organization where passionate security professionals come to solve real security problems.”

The new CTO said it’s rare to be presented with an opportunity to transform security and empower so businesses to make better cybersecurity decisions.

Secureworks is majority-owned by Dell Technologies.

The security company’s stock is currently trading around $10 per share as of Wednesday morning.
