CRN Newsroom Update: Security Reporter Sarah Kuranda On Kaspersky Accusation
Perhaps the biggest story in security news is that security vendor Kaspersky this week is responding to allegations that their services may be linked to cyber-espionage.
"The [U.S.] government removed Kaspersky from the GSA schedule, which means that they’ve been taken off the list of approved contractors for the federal government. This is a big deal because the federal government is one of the biggest markets for IT out there,’ said Kuranda.
She said that as expected, customers are expressing concern, questioning whether or not Kaspersky is safe to use in order to protect their most valued data. At the moment, nothing has been confirmed and Trump’s statements are merely accusatory.
’Partners still seem to be supporting the company going forward - we’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out,’ she said.
