Another round of product announcements to share from RSA.

The security conference took over San Francisco Monday. An estimated 40,000 people were in attendance, and security companies came ready to share their latest innovations with the crowds.

Sophos unveiled its XG Firewall as part of the Sophos Security Suite. According to new research by the company, firewalls are failing to provide the protection organizations need. A recent Sophos survey of 2,700 IT managers across 10 countries underlines the problem, finding that on average 45 percent of network traffic is going unidentified, according to responses by IT managers. Sophos says the XG Firwall provides better protection, better visibility and better threat response, slashing 3.3 hours normally required to identify and secure an infected system to just 8 seconds.

Meanwhille, VMware is continuing to build its name in the security space with updates to its AppDefense application, a product that protects workloads by monitoring them against their intended state. AppDefense initially supported applications running on vSphere-based virtualized and cloud environments, and has now been expanded to containers. The company also unveiled a collaboration with Aqua Security.
