Security Minute: Win By Choosing Winning Products

Discover why one solution provider says Fortinet's WAN Edge Infrastructure solution stands a cut above the rest.

SD-WAN is one of the most talked about networking technologies—set to reach $4.5 billion by 2022.

Every vendor seems to have a slightly different take, so it’s your job to sift through those vendors to find the best fit for your customers. “They’re usually the ones leading the cutting edge,” says CTO of Advanced Computer Solutions Group Justin Jackson, “You have to partner with certain vendors where their focus is aligned to what your customers’ needs are.”

When it comes to wide-area networking (or WAN) optimization, your customers want flexible, cost-effective technology that will solve their problems at the edge. And, that’s just part of it for MSP Advanced Computer Solutions Group.

“A lot of our customers, they rely on us. So, I think the tough part is when we find a product, seeing if it’s security-focused first,” says Jackson. He says that’s where Fortinet stands out. Recognized in Gartner’s 2018 Magic Quadrant for WAN Edge Infrastructure, Fortinet offers a layered approach with secure WAN on top of its NGFW firewall platform.

“If they don’t go with a product like the FortiGate, where SD-WAN and security have been married, they’re going to have to deploy one, two or possibly even three products, so that’s more for them to manage,” says Carl Cayton, SE director for U.S. channel at Fortinet.

And, it’s more of an opportunity for something to go wrong, which Jackson says can immediately tarnish his reputation with clients. “We’re a customer service business, first, that provides technology services, second. So, it’s all about our customer. If we didn’t have the customer, we wouldn't be in business,” he says.

You might be wondering the best use case for a secure SD-WAN solution. It’s any vertical that has remote sites coming back to a central location. Think retail. You need constant, secure connectivity. You also need to leverage an affordable broadband connection, plus 3G or 4G backup.
