WATCH: What You Missed From XChange University: IT Security

Cybersecurity holds great potential for the channel, but challenges in navigating the industry continue to grow each day. That was the message from experts gathered at XChange University: IT Security, an event hosted by CRN’s parent company, The Channel Company, who gave solution providers a reality check.

“I think the reality of today’s security is that the individuals, the humans, need to be protected, regardless of where they are,” said Bacem Moussa, CEO of Boston-based solution provider TSP Solutions. “The challenge is figuring out what we can provide, what partners can provide and what we need to stay away from.”

To add to the challenges solution providers face, a recent report from Momentum Cyber found that the number of cybersecurity vendors on the market has increased 23X over the past decade.

“We don’t even know if those companies that are coming out today are going to be around, or if they will be consumed by a larger industry, which leaves us vulnerable,” said Corey Kirkendoll, president and CEO of 5K Technical Services based in Dallas.

Sophos Vice President of Global Channels Kendra Krause discussed how partners can separate the good vendors from the bad.

“It’s really important for partners to look at the full end to end. They need to look at the technology out there, and they also need to look at the support they are going to get,” she said.

And it’s not just vendors crowding the market, it’s solution providers too. Encore Technology Group President and CTO Michael Knight discussed how partners can stand out in the crowd.

“Look at what you need to add in, where you need to invest, where you might want to plug in to a separate utility and, most importantly simplify,” he said.
