Alteryx Hires Former UserTesting Executive Andy MacMillan To Be Its New CEO

Alteryx has named former UserTesting CEO Andy MacMillan to be the AI and data analytics company’s new CEO, filling a post that’s been vacant since January.
MacMillan (pictured) is taking the job previously held by Mark Anderson who left in January to become president of revenue at Cloudflare, the global content delivery network company. Anderson had been Alteryx’s CEO for more than three years.
Alteryx announced the hiring of MacMillan Thursday. Kevin Rubin, the company’s CFO, had been serving as interim CEO since Anderson’s departure.

News of MacMillan’s hiring comes one year after Alteryx announced a $4.4 billion deal to be acquired by private equity firms Clearlake Capital Group and Insight Partners. The deal, which took then-publicly traded Alteryx private, was completed on March 19, 2024.
Alteryx, headquartered in Irvine, Calif., develops an automated data analytics and AI platform used to collect, prepare and analyze data. Last month, Alteryx debuted the fall 2024 release of the Alteryx system with support for analytics processes and workflows within hybrid cloud/on-premises architectures.
MacMillan was CEO of UserTesting, a San Francisco-based provider of product user experience testing tools and services, for more than six years before stepping down in September. He maintains a senior advisor role to the company, according to his LinkedIn profile, and remains an investor.
In a company statement announcing MacMillan’s appointment, Alteryx said the new CEO “will drive Alteryx forward in its mission to empower organizations to turn their data into insights and deliver better business outcomes.”
“Andy’s capabilities and past leadership success in leveraging AI to drive product innovation and developing high-performing teams at scaled enterprise software companies aligns well with our investment thesis, and we believe his leadership will help propel the company to new heights,” said Prashant Mehrotra, a partner at Clearlake, in the statement.
"We look forward to partnering with Andy and the rest of the team to support Alteryx in delivering new products and increased value to customers as it continues to enhance its AI-driven analytics cloud platform,” Mehrotra said.
Before his time at UserTesting, MacMillan was chairman and CEO at Act-On Software. Before that he worked at Salesforce for three-and-a-half years in several jobs including chief operating officer of the Products Group and senior vice president of product management in Salesforce’s Data.com division, according to the Alteryx statement and MacMillan’s LinkedIn profile. Prior to that he worked at Oracle for nearly five years including holding the title of vice president of product management.
“Great companies are built on the foundational pillars of company culture and customer-centricity, and I’m delighted to join a company that follows this same philosophy,” MacMillan said in the statement. “Together with the team, we'll lead Alteryx into its next phase of growth and product innovation to help our customers succeed in their analytics journey.”
Among MacMillan’s top priorities in his new role will be accelerating Alteryx’s innovation in its core platform and supporting the development of additional AI capabilities, the company said. He is also committed to building on the company and customer culture that has created a user community of more than 600,000 members.
