Breece Hill Entices VARs With New Rebates, Spifs

The Louisville, Colo.-based data backup appliance vendor, which makes the iStoRA backup appliance that includes disk and tape in one unit, is promising VARs volume rebates of up to 7 percent if they sign up for the program by Oct. 15.

Breece Hill CEO Bob Schaefer said sales of up to $50,000 worth of iStoRAs through Dec. 31 would earn solution providers a 3 percent rebate. Sales of $75,000 worth of iStoRA would qualify them for a 5 percent rebate and sales of $100,000 or more a 7 percent rebate, he said.

Besides the volume rebates, Breece Hill is also looking to push sales with a $100 bonus to the VAR&s sales rep and another $100 bonus to the partner's system engineer for each iStoRA appliance sold, according to Schaefer. "If the reseller doesn't allow spifs, we can give that $200 to the reseller organization, and they can split it as they wish," he said.

Because the iStoRA has disk RAID and tape integrated in a single unit, it can be used to capture data changes to disk shortly after they are made, Schaefer said. For longer-term archiving, the files also can be copied to tape.

With the addition of Double-Take data protection software from Southboro, Mass.-based NSI Software, the iStoRA can be used as a continuous data protection appliance, Schaefer added. He said he was excited to Microsoft and Symantec unveil their CDP applications this week. "It was almost a call to action to us," he said.

Breece Hill has no direct sales. About two-thirds of the company&s sales go through solution providers and about one-third via OEMs.
