StorageTek, LSI Logic Expand Co-Branding Products

StorageTek LSI Logic Storage Systems

The entry-level D173 open systems array, available with either 10 or 14 hard drives and a maximum of 5.4 Tbytes capacity, is made by Chicago-based LSI Logic, and will be co-branded by StorageTek for sale by its direct-sales force and its channel partners, StorageTek executives said. The SAN array is aimed at small and midsize businesses, remote users and department users, and has a "pay as you grow" option. It also supports storage partitioning over heterogeneous SANs.

The co-branding of the D173 follows a similar program two months ago wherein the two vendors introduced a co-branded D178 disk storage system with StorageTek's SANtricity Storage Manager 8.0 software.

Derek Gamradt, vice president of engineering and CTO at StorNet, an Englewood, Colo.-based storage solution provider, said the co-branding arrangements between StorageTek and LSI Logic are good for channel partners.

"LSI Logic has great technology but does not do a good job with branding," said Gamradt. "This announcement allows us to combine our LSI Logic and StorageTek efforts and gives customers a one-stop shop."
