Fibre Channel Vendors Rush To Show Clariion AX100 Compatibility

Why the rush? SMBs are projected to account for for about 20 percent of the $5 billion to be spent on disk storage, according to Gartner. "With 70 percent of midsize businesses still relying on direct attached storage, the opportunity is significant for storage vendors to bring to market attractively priced solutions that focus on reducing management costs and increasing the value," said Roger W. Cox, research vice president, storage systems for Gartner, in a statement.

Emulex said that its LP101 host bus adapter enables had been tested and approved by EMC for use with the AX100. EMC also qualified the Emulex LP982 HBA for users with midrange applications running Windows and Linux.

Emulex said its new AutoPilot-Installer walks users through HBA installation in a simple, automated way, eliminating the need for identification of HBA driver revisions, parameter settings and other complex configuration information.

For its part, Brocade said its Silkworm 3250, an 8-port Fibre Channel switch for storage area networks, will work with the AX100 to deliver up to 3 TBytes of capacity, integrated management and a wizard-based interface for easy setup.
