Cloud Software Group Plans To Acquire Arctera
Tom Krause, CEO of Cloud Software Group, says he expects Arctera’s portfolio of data resilience, data compliance and data protection products will be a natural complementary addition to the company.
Cloud Software Group Wednesday said it plans to acquire Arctera, a data management firm born after last year’s acquisition of the majority of Veritas by data protection and cyber resilience vendor Cohesity.
Arctera was founded in December 2024 in the wake of Cohesity’s acquisition of Veritas’ enterprise data protection business, centered mainly around Veritas’ NetBackup technology, in a $3 billion deal that pushes Cohesity from the No. 6 position in the industry to either No. 1 or No. 2, depending on analysts’ estimations.
Arctera encompassed the part of Veritas not acquired by Cohesity, namely its Enterprise Vault data archiving, InfoScale data availability and Backup Exec data protection businesses.
Cloud Software Group, with dual headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Pleasanton, Calif., did not release terms of the deal. The company also did not respond to a CRN request for more information.
The planned acquisition of Arctera closes the door on Veritas’ journey as a single company since it was acquired by security vendor Symantec in 2005.
Cloud Software Group was founded in 2022 when virtualization and cloud products vendor Citrix and enterprise application vendor Tibco Software completed a $16.5 billion merger to build what the company called at the time “a new global leader in enterprise software.”
Cloud Software Group CEO Tom Krause (pictured), in a prepared statement, called his company’s acquisition of Arctera an important step forward in its long-term growth strategy.
“We have a strong track record of continuing to invest in our portfolio of leading software brands, as evidenced by our work to improve profitability and long-term sustainability of the Citrix and TIBCO businesses. Looking ahead, we aim to acquire at-scale enterprise-focused software businesses that provide proven mission-critical capabilities and high value to public and private sector customers while also ensuring they’re a good fit to operate within our proven Cloud Software Group model,” Krause said.
Krause also said he expects Arctera’s portfolio of data resilience, data compliance and data protection products will be a natural complementary addition to Cloud Software Group.
Arctera CEO Lawrence Wong, in a prepared statement, called the acquisition the next chapter in Arctera’s evolution.
“Our mission has been to build on our pedigree of innovation across our three distinct product lines, each tailored to solve the most demanding data challenges for their customers. With Cloud Software Group’s global resources, industry-leading portfolio and seasoned leadership team, Arctera will be even better positioned to continue helping customers manage one of their most valuable assets: data,” Wong said.
