Tintri Expands All-Flash Storage To Remote/Branch Offices With New Channel-Only Offering

All-flash storage array vendor Tintri has expanded from its data-centric focus with the introduction of a new series of storage appliances targeting remote and branch office deployments.

The new T1000 all-flash arrays offer the same operating system and management platform of its larger cousins, but are packaged in a fixed configuration with 2 TBs of raw usable storage in a 2U rackmount format, said Chuck Dubuque, vice president of product marketing for the Mountain View, Calif.-based company.

With Tintri's de-duplication technology, the T1000 can deliver up to 10 TBs of effective flash storage capacity to support up to 100 virtual machines, Dubuque told CRN.

"It's a channel-only offering designed for smaller use cases than we targeted in the past," he said. "Our previous models for enterprise core data center operations started at 20 TBs of capacity for $75,000 list. The T1000 lists for just under $40,000, but has a street price of $25,000 to $30,000."

The T1000, unlike its larger Tintri cousins, includes a full range of software in a single SKU, including software for replicating data on the unit to a central data center, encryption for data at rest, and one-year gold-level, next-day business support, Dubuque said.

Other software, including copy data management and cloud connection applications, are available as options, he said.

The T1000 is something customers have been waiting for, said Aaron Cardenas, CEO and founder of P1 Technologies, a Hermosa Beach, Calif.-based solution provider and long-time Tintri channel partner.

"Most of our clients who purchased Tintri for their data centers would like a remote array to connect to their original units," Cardenas told CRN. "But Tintri has not had one before."

Once customers have experienced the Tintri technology, it's hard for them to purchase other vendors' technologies, Cardenas said.

"Tintri's value is not forcing users to manage LUNs [Logical Unit Number] or RAID groups," he said. "Data centers have people who can handle that. But remote offices don't have the people to do that."
