HP Adds InfiniBand To ProLiant Line

Previously the Topspin technology was only in HP's 9000 and Integrity servers using the HP-UX operating system. The ProLiant line focuses more on high performance commercial computing and database clustering markets, according to the vendors.

As a server interconnect and I/O technology, InfiniBand offers increased performance, higher scalability, and improved manageability, Topspin said. "Cluster-aware, high performance applications and databases are moving out of the scientific computing community and into the mainstream corporate data center," said Brian Garrett, an analyst with the Enterprise Strategy Group, in a statement. "HP servers and Topspin technology can help data center managers increase performance today, and also establish the grid infrastructure to make utility computing a reality."

The vendors said that pricing and availability information will become available later this month.
