VARBusiness' 2004 Midmarket Spending Methodology

VARBusiness designed the 2004 midmarket survey. We then partnered with ARC Research, a Cranford, N.J.-based business-intelligence and market-research firm, to review the questionnaire, conduct the telephone interviews, process data and analyze the findings. To ensure a representative cross-section of the midsize customer, the data was weighted based on number of employees. The survey respondents are personally involved in the decision-making process for their companies' IT products, services and technology solutions. The vast majority of these IT decision-makers hold management positions at executive, corporate and technical levels.

Participants were randomly chosen from a list of some 10,000 individuals employed by midmarket businesses. Interviews were conducted during the first three weeks of July. A total of 277 respondents qualified and completed this survey, yielding a margin of error +/-5.9% at a 95 percent confidence interval.
