HP Compaq Business Notebook nx5000

Linux on the Desktop? How about Linux on a notebook?

HP recently released its first ever Linux notebook. The HP-Compaq nx5000 now gives buyers the option to choose SuSE Linux 9.1 HP Edition as the operating system.

The machine supports Pentium M or Celeron M processors, and the 15-inch display is available in XGA or SXGA resolutions. The notebook includes integrated wireless, a 10/100 NIC, 56K modem, two USB 2.0 ports, FireWire, serial and parallel ports, and two PC Card slots. HP chose KDE 3.2 as the GUI, and includes the latest version of LinuxOpenOffice.

HP's edition of the OS supports power management, communications, multimedia applications, CD burning and more. Certain features are not supported, however. The SD Card reader does not work, the machine cannot burn DVDs, and it is not Centrino certified.
