Pervasive Suite Enables Multi-App Integration

Whether developers use messaging, API-based interfacing or a B2B approach for application integration projects, Business Integrator allows ISVs and solution providers to create and resell customized, cost-effective software solutions to customers. By positioning themselves as customized software OEMs, solution providers become more competitive. The process allows for faster solution delivery, since all preliminary mapping and process templates are worked out by the ISV and the solution provider before the software reaches a customer.

Business Integrator is a cross-platform product, and solution providers can increase their revenue by offering migration services without affecting existing system architectures. Business Integrator also does not force customers to use an operating system-independent application communication layer through Web services.

Developers can interface with Business Integrator's business-process engine through the command line and through the Java, COM and C SDKs. The engine runs on all major versions of Unix, Linux, OS 390 and multiple Windows versions, including Windows 2003.

Because integration projects are complex and often require the skills of many teams of developers, business analysts and application designers, technical training on these tools is of utmost importance. Pervasive offers a dedicated developer and solution provider Web site with product and developer support materials for download. Partners can receive a free five-day training course that covers Pervasive's entire integration product line. For an additional cost, training is provided in-person at a partner's location.

The business-process engine can execute jobs with no dependencies on multiple processors for massive parallel processing capability. A threading engine is also available but is sold separately. The threading engine organizes jobs using thread instances, allowing parallel processing to occur on a single CPU to increase speed and maximize CPU utilization. Using an OS-native scheduler, administrators can process jobs automatically. The Windows version of the engine can virtualize a job as a service so if the system reboots, the job automatically restarts. The engine has a small footprint, so it works in small desktop drives. The Business Integrator suite consists of two environments--various developer design tools and a management repository. To develop a process, developers can build sequential or parallel procedures using predefined process steps inside Process Designer. These procedures are all available within the design and are wizard-driven.

Business Integrator also includes specialized design tools to help developers work with both structured and unstructured files that must conform to a pattern before they are mapped or transformed. The Extract Schema Designer tool accepts text files in any format and helps mark easily predictable locations within files. The marked files are used by another design tool, Map Designer, to extract fields. Solution providers can also use these designers to create predefined conversion specifications schemas in a business solution framework. CHANNEL PROGRAM SNAPSHOTS
