Stop Thief! SyNet Safeguards Computers

SyNet recently developed nTracker, new antitheft software that incorporates a stealth e-mail engine so in the event a device is stolen and a new, fraudulent user signs in, an e-mail will be sent to the original user with all of the relevant Internet and tracking information. It will provide all information needed to track down the unit such as MAC address, computer name and trace IP.

Once customers are notified of a theft, they then contact the solution provider and with help from the ISP or telephone company provider, the device can be retrieved.

System builders can offer this service in many different ways. They can include the utility on every system deployed and charge a monthly fee or charge a flat install fee. Even though there are no third-party monitoring centers or monthly subscription fees required, system builders can incorporate them.

Solution providers also can include nTracker with a peer-to-peer service solution, like GoToMyPC remote access, and charge a monitoring fee on top of the antitheft fee. The SP can bundle both services even though the utility is doing all of the stealth work and they will not be called upon unless the systems are physically removed.

CRN Test Center engineers installed the nTracker software on an MPC TransPort X3100 notebook PC. Once the software was installed, an e-mail was sent to the user’s registered e-mail account with all pertinent information. The e-mail was very helpful because it provided all the data needed to track and observe the notebook, including network information.

NTracker cannot be disabled or removed by the person who steals the computer, as it is undetectable. It also includes a “how to” on enabling the BIOS password protection to prevent anyone from reformatting the hard drive.

The nTracker tool will not affect computer performance or interfere with any applications, and is fully compatible with all Windows operating systems.
