Sophos Wipes Enterprises Clean Of Spam

Antivirus vendor Sophos is helping solution providers battle spam on the enterprise level with its latest antispam product, PureMessage. PureMessage is available in three versions: PureMessage Small Business Edition, PureMessage for Unix and PureMessage for Windows/Exchange. With so many antispam solutions on the market, vendors are struggling to highlight what makes their particular products stand out. In Sophos' case, compatibility with a Unix platform is a key differentiator, but other features also set PureMessage apart.

PureMessage works with multiple languages, which allows the product to effectively filter international spam and work consistently across enterprises with overseas branches. PureMessage also effectively filters spam while reducing the number of false positives, or legitimate e-mail flagged as spam. Many of the product's spam filtering techniques are proprietary and witheld from the public, making it more difficult for spammers to compromise the filters.

PureMessage provides a browser-based interface that allows end users to check for false positives and resolve any misidentification problems without the need for help-desk or administrative support. End-user customization is extended to white lists and black lists, which further fine-tunes the end-user experience and enhance the product's effectiveness. PureMessage can be readily integrated with Sophos' antivirus products to further protect systems from viruses, malware and worms. This capability allows PureMessage to become a single-tier solution for the most common e-mail-related problems. PureMessage costs $7 per user license.

Sophos' three-tier partner program offers all partners access to a dedicated partner Web site, 24x7 technical support and sales and marketing collateral. Authorized resellers receive an average 20 percent margin, and margins are as high as 40 percent depending on partner level. Partners must actively recommend Sophos' products and complete online training courses. Partners are eligible for quarterly rebates, joint marketing opportunities, sales incentives and access to renewal business opportunities. Certified partners must recommend Sophos' products, complete a training course and meet a quarterly revenue quota as well as provide services and support to customers. Certified partners are eligible to participate in technical workshops and receive pre- and post-sales integration assistance.
