The Week Ending Oct. 4

Topping this week's roundup of those having a rough week is HP Inc. and its employees following the news that the company plans to cut its workforce by as much as 16 percent by 2022 under a restructuring plan announced this week.

Also making the list are cybersecurity vendor Comodo and customer service app developer Zendesk, both of which were victims of security breaches. Online version control service provider Bitbucket spent much of the week dealing with a service outage and Google hustled to warn Android users about a vulnerability that could give attackers control over their phone.

Not everyone in the IT industry was having a rough go of it this week. For a rundown of companies that made smart decisions, executed savvy strategic moves – or just had good luck – check out this week's Five Companies That Came To Win roundup.
