Comodo Breach Exposes Account Login Data For Up To 245,000 Users

Cybersecurity vendor Comodo disclosed this week that an attack on the Comodo Forums database may have exposed the account login information for as many as 245,000 registered users.

The company said an unknown attacker exploited a zero-day vBulletin software vulnerability and potentially breached the Comodo Forums database. vBulletin is a popular server application for website comments.

The database holds information on forum users including login usernames, actual names, email addresses, hashed passwords, last IP used to access the forum and – in very limited situations – social media usernames.

Comodo said it became aware of the potential breach on Sept. 29, four days after vBulletin issued a patch for the vulnerability. But Comodo didn’t apply the recommended patches until after the security flaw had already been exploited.
