Cloud Expo: 5 Biggest Benefits Of Cloud Computing

Head In The Clouds

This week, Cloud Expo drew several hundred end users, delegates and others to New York City to check the pulse of cloud computing and where the market stands. Attendees got a peek at a host of new products to ease moving to a cloud computing model, and they also got insight from a host of highly-regarded cloud executives.

Channelweb.com caught up with five cloud executives during Cloud Expo and asked them their take on the single biggest benefit of cloud computing. The following is what they said.

It's A New Business Model

"It changes the model of business. It does this by allowing the business to operate as a dynamic supply chain instead of the hard-wired silos found in businesses today." -- Tony Bishop, CEO, cloud design vendor Adaptivity

It Delivers Agility

"Agility. Today the biggest benefit is instant computing ... You can pay for what you use and you can get out of the business of dealing with all of the muck." -- Lew Moorman, Cloud Division President and Chief Strategy Officer, cloud provider Rackspace.

Flexibility And Scale

"The concept of limitless flexibility combined with scalability." -- William Bumbernick, CEO, cloud communications provider Alteva.

On-Demand Capacity

"It's the capacity on-demand and rapid provisioning with self-service. That's what people want: The ability to have resources spin up when needed is a compelling business need. You don't need to buy 100 servers when you need 100 servers for one week." -- Ellen Rubin, Founder and Vice President of Products, cloud software maker CloudSwitch

Drilling Down On Costs

"Cloud computing for the first time allows you to directly correlate the cost of running the application to the application itself ... We now know in dollars and cents terms how much the application costs to run." -- Treb Ryan, CEO, cloud infrastructure provider OpSource
