5 Predictions For Software Development In 2022

Rick Whiting

A Forrester Research report says to expect more use of AI bots, collaborative work management and event-drive architectures in software development operations in the new year.

All cross-mobile development environments will support a web runtime

Web and mobile front ends are converging, according to Forrester, and in 2022 that capability “will differentiate the successful mobile development environments from the moribund.”

Web applications can take many forms and Forrester predicts that enthusiasm will grow for next-generation, platform-independent runtimes. The choice of programming language will be less important.

“Bytecode interpreters with efficient just-in-time (JIT) and ahead-of-time compilers will allow code to behave across platforms – but this time, streaming execution and multi-stage JITs will mean no delay in launching,” the report says.
