5 Predictions For Software Development In 2022

Rick Whiting

A Forrester Research report says to expect more use of AI bots, collaborative work management and event-drive architectures in software development operations in the new year.

Nearly all development tools will include an AI bot by the end of 2022

The Forrester report notes that this year Microsoft released a controlled trial of GitHub Copilot, IBM debuted AI for Code and AI stack, and Oracle released a query language generator, and the report expects more production-ready, open-source, GPT-3-based code solutions to appear on the market in 2022.

Forrester also predicts that vendors of low-code and no-code development tools will embed AI in their toolsets, including adding natural language capabilities to make tools easier to use.

And the use of bots will continue to expand across the full software development lifecycle after becoming prevalent in the development and testing stages.
