More Data, Faster Data

The total amount of digital data created worldwide is expected to more than quadruple to 175 zettabytes by 2025 from 40 zettabytes this year, fueled in part by the exploding number of data-generating edge devices and sensors, according to market researcher IDC. In keeping with Gartner’s “three Vs” (volume, variety and velocity) definition of big data, the growing data deluge will increasingly include a broad range of data types—much of it live and in motion.

That makes data management and analysis a challenge. It’s also driving many of the emerging trends that are likely to be prevalent in 2020—trends that solution providers with data management and business analytics practices should be aware of.

Here’s a look at eight of the key trends in data management and analytics we expect to hear more of in the new year. Information in this slide show comes from a variety of sources including the “Gartner Top 10 Data and Analytic Trends,” market researchers such as IDC and Ventana Research, software developers including MicroStrategy, solution providers such as Pythian, and other sources.
