Top Business Applications
Microsoft retained the top spot in business application software sales through distributors and retailers in the third quarter in the U.S. despite losing more than 3 percent in market share.
That's according to The NPD Group of Port Washington, N.Y. The NPD Group tracks monthly technology sales-out information from the largest IT distributors and resellers in North America, down to the item level and with overlap removed.
Rounding out the top three for business application sales is Adobe and Cisco Systems, according to the Market Research firm. The total for the business application software space in Q3 was $1.08 billion, up 7.3 percent from $1.01 billion in the same quarter one year earlier.

5. IBM
IBM's business application software sales were $24.6 million in the July to September quarter, down a significant 24.3 percent from $32.5 million in the third quarter one year earlier. The company's dollar share of the market in Q3 was 3.2 percent, down from 2.3 percent one year ago.
4. Autodesk
Autodesk's business application software sales were $133.4 million in the July to September quarter, up a significant 23.2 percent from $108.2 million in the third quarter one year earlier. The company's dollar share of the market in Q3 was 10.8 percent, up from 10.8 percent one year ago.
3. Cisco Systems
Cisco Systems' business application software sales were $157.3 million in the July to September quarter, up an impressive 29.4 percent from $121.5 million in the third quarter one year earlier. The company's dollar share of the market in Q3 was 14.6 percent, up from 12.1 percent one year ago.
2. Adobe
Adobe's business application software sales were $188.0 million in the July to September quarter, up 10.5 percent from $170.2 million in the third quarter one year earlier. The company's dollar share of the market in Q3 was 17.4 percent, up from 16.9 percent one year ago.

Microsoft's business application software sales were $413.5 million in the July to September quarter, down 0.8 percent from $416.9 million in the third quarter one year earlier. The company's dollar share of the market in Q3 was 38.3 percent, down from 41.5 percent one year ago.
