25 Must-See New Products At Interop NY

Tech hungry masses converged on New York City's Jacob Javits Convention Center this week to check out the latest and greatest in hardware and software as vendors unveil their new wares at Interop New York and the Mobile Business Expo, which runs Sept. 15 to Sept. 19.



Dozens of vendors will make announcements around new product sets as Interop New York enters its fourth year.



Here we collect 25 hot products you must check out on the Interop show floor to keep everything on your corporate network up and running smoothly.

Foundry Networks will unveil the FastIron WS Series of one rack unit fixed form factor Layer 2/3 switches. They will be available as 24- and 48-port 10/100 or 10/100/1000 Mbps models, with or without IEEE 802.3af PoE, for enterprise edge networking, security, and unified communication needs. The WS series extends Foundry's networking portfolio to encompass a focused, intelligent solution for SMBs, branch offices and distributed enterprises.



The FastIron WS Series provides an industry-leading feature set in an entry-level compact 1RU Layer 2/3 switch to allow network flexibility and manageability through 24- and 48-port PoE availability, Layer 3 routing support (OSPF, RIP), and unique security capabilities. The WS Series' security features include sFlow, unprecedented in this market area, to allow traffic visibility, network protection and manageability at the network edge. Flow traffic analysis is available to any administrator using Foundry's IronView Network Manager (INM) or any network management that supports this network monitoring standard. For users employing INM, Foundry's IronShield 360-degree full-circle security solution and extensive and advanced traffic policy features are available to ensure the smooth operation and security of the entire network.

Agito Networks will use Interop and the Mobile Business Expo as the vehicles to debut the next release of the RoamAnywhere Mobility Router, a powerful enterprise FMC (fixed-mobile convergence) solution sold in the channel, increasing channel customers' mobile worker productivity while reducing cellular costs.



The new RoamAnywhere packs in a host of industry firsts, including Secure Remote Voice for secure VoWLAN, Dual Persona for converged business and personal contacts and calling in one device, Dynamic Least Cost Routing, and broadest PBX and Symbian/Windows Mobile handset support.

Solera Networks plans to announce the first OEM version if its technology, the Solera Networks Capture Stack (shown here in a screenshot). The Capture Stack is a software-only version of Solera Networks network capture and search technology. The network forensics platform integrates with security solutions to provide a complete record of all data-in-motion around a network security alert or event. This record allows companies to more quickly recover from a network attack. Solera Networks will team with leading OEMs to offer this technology bundled or integrated with leading security solutions.

After a brief soft launch, ATEN Technology will unveil the Serial over the NET (SN3101) Serial Device Server. The SN3101 enables secure, remote management of IT serial devices such as servers, routers, PBX systems, telecommunications equipment, serial-based power management appliances and more.



The new SN3101 3-in-1 serial device server supports RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 data transfers, as well as provides Ethernet connectivity for a wide variety of serial devices used in commercial applications. These applications include industrial control, data acquisition, access control, environment monitoring, banking, telecommunications and remote site management, among others. This all-encompassing serial data transfer system transforms the usability of legacy serial devices by enhancing them with the speed and reliability of the most current communications interfaces.

Polycom will make several key announcements at Interop New York. First up is the KIRK 5040 handset, the newest addition to the KIRK product line. The 5040 is a lightweight DECT phone that combines award-winning design with intuitive user interface and wireless headset that can be operated hands-free and wirelessly with a Bluetooth headset.



Like the KIRK 5020, the 5040 can quickly be switched to silent mode and will distinguish between external and internal calls by ring tone. The KIRK 5040 handset also features an intuitive user interface and a large color-display offering an experience similar to a mobile phone and with the added benefit of hands-free operation.

If a DECT phone isn't your speed, Polycom at Interop will also unveil two new wireless telephones under its SpectraLink line, the 8020 and the 8030.



Polycom's SpectraLink 8020 Wireless Telephone is designed for users across a wide range of industries. With a lightweight yet rugged design and extensive feature support, the SpectraLink 8020 Wireless Telephone meets the needs of general office and management staff while also providing a reliable option for front-line personnel in high-use environments.



Polycom's SpectraLink 8030 Wireless Telephone extends the capabilities of the 8000 Series handsets by adding Polycom's unique push-to-talk (PTT) feature along with improvements to the industrial design and handset ergonomics. The SpectraLink 8030 PTT capability allows instantaneous communication between employees independent of the PBX system, eliminating the need for two-way radios. The larger earpiece of the SpectraLink 8030 Wireless Telephone seals out background noise and provides comfort for frequent or lengthy calls. The NetLink 8030 Wireless Telephone is uniquely suited for distributed work teams that require frequent communication.

Polycom's SpectraLink 8002 Wireless Telephone, which will also debut at Interop, is a cost-effective, business-grade mobile telephony solution for small to medium-sized businesses. Using the Wi-Fi Alliance's WMM QoS standard, the SpectraLink 8002 Wireless Telephone interoperates with most consumer-grade and SMB access point infrastructure devices, alleviating the need to install and maintain additional hardware while still providing enterprise-level security and quality voice. In keeping with the needs of the market segment, the SpectraLink 8002 is packaged in complete, ready-to-install bundles that include a single or dual charger, battery pack and a power supply.

Lastly, Polycom is set to announce the Polycom Distributed Media Application (DMA) 7000, a network-based application that manages and distributes multipoint video calls within an enterprise network environment. The Polycom DMA 7000 is designed to unify visual communication infrastructure, improving the efficiency and performance of video calls on an enterprise network and making it easier and more cost-effective for organizations to deliver on-demand video conferencing services enterprise wide.

At Interop, Stampede will release its new Remote Campus Optimizer (RCO), a tool that makes WAN access more like LAN access by facilitating easier, more responsive and more efficient remote user application access. The Stampede RCO accelerates most traffic between a remote branch and a data center by sitting "in-line" as a transparent bridge. The RCO runs on a dedicated appliance with special network hardware that enables it to go into pass-through if taken out of service.



The RCO accelerates multiple protocols, including HTTP, Microsoft Exchange (MAPI), CIFS, FTP, POP3, SMTP, and many others. Working in conjunction with the Stampede Acceleration Series (SAAS), the new RCO enhances acceleration by combining protocol-specific optimization techniques along with compression technology, and Stampede's patented Turbostreaming. The RCO makes remote application use four to 10 times faster and more efficient, reducing bandwidth usage by 70 percent to 90 percent. By partnering with OEMs who will bring their own hardware to the total solution, the RCO will put an affordable WAN Optimization Solution on the market for small and medium size accounts who previously could not afford Enterprise level WOC products.

Xceedium, which makes entitlement management solutions that reduce the complexity and cost of controlling high-risk users, will unveil the Xceedium Gatekeeper 620, a hardened appliance that enables enterprise and large government clients to remotely manage the activities of high-risk users from a central point to anywhere in the heterogeneous IT infrastructure, without modification of legacy systems and with minimal implementation.



The channel-only Xceedium GateKeeper 620 provides enterprise-class entitlement management solutions for SMBs, departments, remote offices and managed service providers. Using unique and patent-pending technologies, both Xceedium GateKeeper products compartmentalize and contain high-risk users, then monitor, alert, remediate, log, record, and report on all their activities inside the critical IT infrastructure.



IT administrators, application developers, vendors and technical contractors can securely access critical IT resources, from both inside and outside the organization, without leaving a footprint. Enterprises rely on the Xceedium GateKeeper to balance audit and compliance requirements with the need for operational efficiency. SMBs and departments deploy Xceedium GateKeeper 620 for a cost-effective way to manage secure access to their small data rooms and remote offices. Retail businesses with distributed IT facilities use it to meet Level 2 and 3 PCI certification requirements.

Eaton will introduce its new addition to the Powerware series, the Eaton 9130 UPS, which will help IT managers carry out green initiatives in their IT environments. The new 700 to 3000 VA UPS models feature a high-efficiency design that saves energy without sacrificing reliability. The Eaton 9130 features a 0.9 output power factor for delivering full power to equipment that may have a wide range of leading and lagging power factors. Ideal for servers, networking equipment, telecommunications, VoIP and security systems, the Eaton 9130 delivers clean, continuous power to protect critical equipment from power anomalies in utility power. In addition, the Eaton 9130 can operate in a high-efficiency mode of greater that 95 percent when power conditions are within acceptable limits.

Also making its show debut at Interop as part of the Easton's Powerware product line, the Eaton 5130 is a flexible 1250 to 3000 VA line-interactive UPS designed to offer the best price per performance ratio. Available in slim 2U and 3U rack and tower configurations, the 5130's compact size is ideal for dense rack enclosures. The user-replaceable hot-swappable batteries allow users to safely install a new battery without powering down the connected equipment or having to remove the unit from the rack. For applications requiring longer runtimes, external battery modules can be quickly added to provide hours of backup time -- especially important for telecommunications, VoIP and health care systems.

Network Critical will debut the newest addition to the new Smart Network Access product line, the SmartNA 10G Filtering TAP. It allows users to access a 10 Gig data stream while providing the ability to filter the traffic and send it out to a 1 Gig monitoring port, providing a way for users to continue to utilize their 1 Gig analysis tools while still being able to upgrade to a 10 Gig data stream.



The Smart Network Access 10G Filtering TAP comes equipped with two 10 Gig Live Network input Ports, two 10 Gig Monitoring Ports that allow for filtering and two 1 Gig Monitoring Ports that support aggregation and filtering. As with all the components of the Smart Network Access System, this unit comes equipped with Network Critical's Failsafe Technology, which promises no disruption of network traffic, even if power is lost to the unit.



Other features of the Smart Network Access 10G Filtering TAP include 100 percent accurate counters for all bytes and packets; deep packet inspection of header fields and the entire payload pattern of each packet; real-time traffic visibility; micro-second accurate time-stamp; accurate bandwidth and packet per rate profile; and secure Web-based reporting including current, statistical and cumulative data.

BlueCat Networks will demonstrate its Proteus 2.5 solution (shown here in a screenshot), which incorporates such functionality as workflow for change approval, data restoration, intelligent IPAM automation, and enforcement of corporate naming policies.

Reimage will launch its online PC repair service that empowers IT technicians to fix badly damaged PCs in 30 minutes or less. Using patent-pending technology, the Reimage Web-based repair service does exactly what a human being would do when repairing a PC: It observes then acts using experience and knowledge, while leaving all user data and applications intact. Tailored exclusively for professional technicians, Reimage can be deployed as a white-label service, enabling large IT organizations and PC repair shops to service multiple PCs simultaneously, thereby increasing productivity and ROI while maintaining their brand promise. The service scans a vast Web repository of over 8 million spare systems files and registry objects. After scanning all files, folders, registry keys, values, drivers and stacks, Reimage effectively implements the repair. The service also repairs PCs that cannot boot up with a comprehensive free boot CD.

NetQuest will launch its E-Series OptiCop 10G Converger, a Monitoring Access Optimizer for high-speed Ethernet packet networks.



The new E-Series utilizes NetQuest's Hybrid Inspection Technology (HIT) to provide a means to extract the traffic of interest and leverage existing investments in security and monitoring tools. The out-of-band access of the E-Series optimizes tool port usage and enables enterprises to implement management, assurance and security strategies related to the overall performance of the services being delivered, without degrading the service or distorting the results.

Celio will announce and demonstrate its REDFLY Mobile Companion, an enabler of mobile virtualization. Celio can provide the larger screen and keyboard that enable workers to expand their smart phones into fully functioning laptop PCs. Through their phone and REDFLY Mobile Companion, users can connect remotely to a desktop or server; allowing users to keep data on the computer they are logging into.

Gigamon Systems will unveil its GigaVUE-2404, a high density data access switch for 10 Gig centric data center networks. Housed in a 2U chassis, the GigaVUE-2404 aggregates, replicates and filters traffic flows across multiple passive monitoring tools. The 10 Gig aggregator is capable of line-rate performance with low latency. Its modular design also lets network professionals deploy the necessary number of ports. The base chassis houses eight, 10 GigE ports and four 1 Gig ports and can scale to a maximum of 24 10 GigE ports.

At Interop, eTelemetry is announcing Metron SE, a network device for SMBs that want to monitor bandwidth usage within their business, along with time spent surfing and chatting by each employee's name and location.



Metron SE features a Manager Portal that enables management to monitor direct reports on surfing and chatting by individual and department without burdening IT. Providing alerts when surfing and chatting exceed a preset threshold, Metron SE also tracks MAN/WAN bandwidth usage by department for forecasting and charge back, and alerts administration or managers when employees remote desktop or create a secure session. Metron's Gateway Anomaly Dashboard detects odd hour access and reports on SSH/Remote Desktop users, while the Employee Activity Dashboard reports on top sites surfed, top bandwidth sites, top SSH and Remote Desktop IPs, behavior and surf trends.

AdRem Software will unveil version 5 of its NetCrunch agentless policy-based availability monitoring software. It offers monitoring of Windows using WMI, Linux using SSH, NetWare and SNMP devices in one package. It centralizes fault management, collecting, alerting and delivering performance reports on events from SNMP sources, Windows Event Logs and syslog servers. The program contains over 65 built-in Network Service monitors and user experience monitors for services like DNS, FTP, POP3, SMTP and HTTP/HTTPS.

NTRglobal is announcing the North American launch of NTRadmin with NTRadmin Bots. NTRadmin Bots allow IT admins and managed service providers to take control of their entire network for patch management, monitoring, inventory and reporting, as well as turning off systems for energy savings; the tasks that can be performed by on-demand Bots are virtually unlimited. As the trend toward virtual and spread-out workforces grows, the challenge and complexity for IT providers to effectively manage these dispersed systems and workforce needs in their network and beyond the WAN are enormous.



NTRadmin utilizes completely customizable Bots to automate IT tasks, saving time and cutting costs. IT operators can create any kind of Bot they want to automatically and remotely manage all the computers they're responsible for. For example, they can set up a Bot to go out and audit all the software that's been downloaded, make sure it's fully licensed and not malicious, and delete anything they are uncomfortable with -- they can even turn on a sleeping computer to do this. This frees up IT staff to focus on important core business needs.

Enterasys Networks will unveil the new Enterasys SecureStack C3 designed for Gig and 10 GigE access at the network edge. The SecureStack C3 offers advanced QoS features to automatically discover, classify and prioritize voice, video and data applications such as IP telephony, HD video conferencing and business intelligence analytics. Redundant power supplies ensure availability while standards-based IEEE 802.3af PoE options support network devices that require external power, such as wireless access points, VoIP telephones, and IP security cameras. The inclusion of identity-based policies assure service level agreement requirements and proactively prevent security incidents based on user and application privileges that ensure only the right users have access to the right information from the right place at the right time. These role-based policies align network resource utilization with business goals and priorities without impacting performance or reliability.



The SecureStack C3 also identifies and classifies incoming traffic; discovers attached users, applications and devices (LLDP-MED); authenticates them using 802.1X, Web or MAC authentication; enforces priority or security policies through wire-speed rate limiting, filtering or forwarding decisions; and leverages industry-standard IPv4/IPv6 routing, VRRP, ECMP, LACP, RSTP, SNMPv3, RMON, and IP Multicast (IPMC) support.

Astaro will introduce the Astaro Mail Gateway, a unified solution designed to counter the myriad security risks of email communication, at Interop NY. The product features high-capacity filtering with a patented anti-spam engine and dual virus scanners, S/MIME and PGP encryption, and message management -- all in one appliance. Email encryption is now offered for free with the mail subscription and allows for transparent signatures at the gateway.

Positive Networks will unveil PhoneFactor, a phone-based two-factor authentication technology that eliminates the need for expensive tokens or certificates. PhoneFactor works by adding an out-of-band, automatic authentication check. When the user answers their phone -- either a landline or a mobile phone -- they must enter either the "#" sign or a PIN. Once the information is entered, they are instantly provided access. That's the first factor in the two-factor authentication. The second factor is the possession of the phone itself. PhoneFactor integrates with any VPN, enterprise application, or Website.

CA will showcase CA XOsoft High Availability and CA Xosoft Replication, which provide centralized, Web-based monitoring and management to help ensure continuous application availability and business continuity. CA XOsoft is also the core of many IT disaster recovery plans, offering the ability to seamlessly fail-over and fail back between data centers and DR hot sites, even when catastrophic events cause damage, power outages or facilities are shut-down or evacuated. With CA XOsoft's Assured Recovery capabilities, companies can also proactively test DR implementations as often as desired without any business disruption.
