IBM, Capgemini, Logicalis, Atos, and World Wide Technologies were among the VAR500 solution providers in the news this week, expanding their cloud computing offerings, earning Cisco recognition and extending business process services. One solution provider is even embracing its techie self by hosting "Geek Day" this week -- "w00t, w00t"!
IBM's Asia Pacific Cloud Computing Data Center
IBM has announced a $38 milliom investment in a new IBM Asia Pacific Cloud Computing Data Center in Singapore, which will provide businesses with solutions and services to harness the potential of cloud computing beginning in April. The new facility will extend IBM's globally-integrated cloud delivery network with centers in Germany, Canada and the United States; and 13 global cloud labs, of which seven are based in Asia Pacific – China, India, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore. The services will help clients reap the benefits of business and IT transformation; increase flexibility and agility; accelerate time to market; reduce costs; and increase security and compliance of public cloud environments.
Capgemini's Business Process Management Push
Capgemini unveiled a new global service line that draws together its activities in business process management (BPM). Aiming for a top-three position in the BPM market, Capgemini will extend its existing expertise and assets in Europe, USA and India. Capgemini will work with partners such as Oracle and Pegasystems – along with other BPM technology providers – and will initially focus on key markets across Europe and the United States.
According to Gartner, the BPMS (business process management suite) market size in 2009 was valued at $1.9 billion growing to $3.4 billion by 2014, a compound annual growth rate of 12.2 percent.
Atos Origin Boosts Cloud Security
Atos Origin presented its cloud-based security solution, Atos High Performance Security, at CeBit earlier this month. The solution identifies security threats to companies, reduces the costs of IT security and helps companies adhere to compliance requirements. A centralized European operations center provides Atos Origin customers with standardized security solutions. Atos Origin credits the development of HPS to its experience as the official Worldwide Information Technology Partner to the Olympic Games since 2002.
World Wide Technologies Geek Day This Week
Geek Day is one of the nation’s premier technology events focused exclusively on virtualization and data center solutions, and is offered to solution providers at no charge. This year’s event at the Renaissance St. Louis Grand Hotel in St. Louis will feature an agenda filled with innovative technologies, interesting and informative breakout sessions and multiple hands-on learning labs. Cisco measures the customer satisfaction levels achieved by its Gold, Silver, and Premier Certified partners based on regional target goals, providing a weighted average of a partner's pre- and post-sales support over a rolling 12-month period. Partners that achieve outstanding customer satisfaction are awarded the Customer Satisfaction Excellence Gold Star.
